McKinney is located roughly 30 miles north of Dallas, and is well known for its historic downtown district which is filled art galleries, restaurants, and antique shops. Many Dallas residents routinely make the trip up to McKinney to visit the nearby wineries, tour the historic mansions on a horse and carriage, and then spend the night in a romantic bed and breakfast. Despite McKinney Texas being a popular getaway, well over 100,000 people permanently live in the area. Much like the other north Dallas Suburbs of Allen and Richardson, McKinney is geared toward those who love the great outdoors. With over 300 acres of nature preserves and a weekly all organic farmer’s market, McKinney gives its residents every reason possible to get out of the house and enjoy the Texas weather.

When compared to the neighborhoods close to downtown Dallas, McKinney offers a lot more house for the money. At present, there are about 20,000 homes in McKinney with a median home value under $200,000. The residential real estate in McKinney tends to be large, luxurious homes built on large lots in pre-planned communities. If you are looking a for a relatively new home with a lot of space, but don’t want to break the bank, McKinney could be the right neighborhood for you.



Commute

Since McKinney is located 30 miles north of Dallas, the daily commute to downtown Dallas should be avoided. The economy of McKinney has grown over the past few years, and more people are opting to work right in their backyard instead of spending upwards of an hour each way. Many professionals also work in the north Dallas suburb of Plano which is only 15 miles south on Highway 75. For those commuting from McKinney to Plano each day, you should expect to spend about 20 minutes each way.
